I've downloaded Gnucash, but haven't tried it out yet. You can't budget or pay bills with it, so it's more of an aggregated set of account registers than a working tool for financial management. 's raison d'etre seems to be the recommendation of other credit cards for me to acquire. Wesabe's transaction tagging feature was particularly useless to me, and that is their main claim to fame. I've tried Mint and Wesabe online and found them pretty but limited. I'm a bit sad to see Money discontinued because I do love the reports, Lifetime Planner (I've had my two Theoretical Brilliant Offspring in my plan since before I was married!), and Cash Flow graphs, but I've been annoyed by the forced upgrades, slow response, and general program bloat for a while. The only accounts I have that auto-update for free are my credit card accounts. I'm approaching the date when my version will no longer automatically download statements, but frankly, I have had to manually download my bank statements anyway since Wachovia started to charge a $5.95 monthly fee for direct to Money updates. I also like that I can sync it up to the mobile Ultrasoft Money software on my smart phone so I can enter transactions on the fly or check balances as needed.
Quirks and all, I am familiar with MS Money and know how to do everything I want to do with it. I tried Quicken a few times, but didn't care for it, especially since it wouldn't import my existing Money file without mangling everything beyond recognition. Since then, I've upgraded about four times, ending with my current version, Money 2007 Premium. I've been using MS Money since I went off to college 16 years ago with the '92 version preinstalled on my Packard Bell Pentium 75 computer.
